Students Praised For Their EffortsThis year sees the introduction of Glenamaddy Community School's Student of the Month award scheme, which aims to encourage students to aim for and achieve a high standard both in terms of behaviour and academic ability. Not only is individual behaviour in the spotlight but class groups throughout Junior Cycle can also work together to win a Group Award, created under the same initiative. At the end of each session classes are assessed and marked, the class group which accumulates the largest number of positive marks wins. Call back to the website to see which individuals and class groups earn their rewards.
In launching these schemes, Ms Lynn, Junior Cycle Awards Co-ordinator, said: "We have many, many, wonderful students who deserve recognition for the maturity they show as they go about their daily school lives and unwittingly act as shining lights for other students to follow. They are a credit to their families and a pleasure to have in the school. We hope other students will aspire to become a winner by doing their best and having their achievements acknowledged by the school and their classmates". Ms Lynn continued: "For the class awards it is slightly different in that there is an onus on all the students in a classroom to perform to a satisfactory standard and not to let the side down by a silly action, unnecessary interruption or generally disruptive behaviour". As well as receiving a certificate presented at assembly, individual award winners receive €10 worth of lunch vouchers to spend on the healthy meal options available in the school canteen.
