Remembering Coláiste SeosaimhOn Saturday May 30th 2009, Coláiste Seosaimh, Glenamaddy celebrated 50 years of secondary education in Glenamaddy and commemorated the Coláiste Seosaimh building with Evening Mass in Glenamaddy, an open school and refreshments. Hundreds of former pupils visited their old school for one last time, re-living their time in school in Glen.
Glenamaddy wins "Best Overall School" in art competition
Glenamaddy Community School took the honours in the Galway Advertiser Art Competition in December. Students were asked to design a cover for the Christmas edition of the newspaper, based on the theme of the Volvo Ocean Yacht Race, which stopped over in Galway during summer 2009.Individual prizes went to Julia Dolan (1st Yr), Bríd Cuddy (2nd Yr), Cathy O'Reilly (2nd Yr) and Mary T Concagh (Leaving Cert).Healthy EatingStudents are urged to bring their own healthy lunch to school. Alternatively the school canteen serves hot food, rolls, wraps fruit and beverages. Evening Study/Homework ClubEvening Study takes place each evening from 4 – 6pm and is recommended for exam students especially. Junior Students are welcome to join the Homework Club where a teacher assists students with their work. Computer/ECDL coursesThe school’s very successful Business Secretarial Computer / ECDL courses are being run again this year. Tuition is free, times and days are flexible and courses cater for all levels of knowledge. Please contact the school for details. Introducing this year's Student CouncilStaff Liaison Teacher: Ms. Madden PrefectsGlenamaddy Community School has introduced a Prefect system this year under the guidance of Ms. Madden. The Prefects will assist staff in the smooth running of the school and school events, marshalling students, reducing horseplay, encouraging students to keep the General Purpose Area tidy during breaks. The following eight students have been given the role of Prefect based on their positive presence and attitude around our school: Emma Coady, Maurice Connaughton, Patrick Conneely, Niamh Conway, Celena Finnegan, Eilis Gannon, Edel Smyth, Ethel Waldron. We wish them well and look forward to recruiting other Prefects in the future. Transition Pack for First Years
Glenamaddy Community School produces a Transition Pack for incoming first years in order to ease the transition from Primary to Post-primary school. Teachers, students and parents collaborate on the content of the pack. It includes staff photographs, a subject list and other essential information about the school. |
