Seussical the Musical
This year was a very special year for our school as we held our first musical as Glenamaddy Community School. As I was chosen as a main character in ‘Seussical the Musical’, I felt it gave me a lot of confidence and it improved my self-esteem.
In the months leading up to the musical the cast put in a lot of effort as we rehearsed after school and at the weekends. It may have taken up a lot of our time but it was well worth it. I would really advise people to get involved in future musicals, as they are brilliant fun, give people a chance to show off, to develop their talents and they give people confidence.
I would like to acknowledge all the staff that helped out and took part in the creation of the show. I would especially like to acknowledge Mr. Coy and Mr. Cassidy who played significant roles within the musical, namely the General and Horton the Elephant, respectively. There is no doubt that their performances on the three nights were spectacular and they were a great help and motivation throughout the show. Another Star was Mr. Kennedy our Choreographer who surprised us with a few of his ‘groovy’ moves during rehearsals. Last but not least I would like to give a huge word of thanks to Ms. Heverin and Mrs. O’Flannagan who put the entire musical together. They did a great job at directing us and teaching us the music and without them the musical would not have been such a huge success. We would also like to thank Mr. Duignan for all he did behind the scenes which helped support the crew, cast and leaders and allowed the show to be as successful as it was.
On behalf of the cast I would finally like to thank everyone who supported ‘Seussical the Musical’ over the three nights. Without the support of the school, staff and community this would not have been possible. As it happened we had a representatives from Shannonside radio attend the show on one of the nights and as a result of what they saw we were awarded the Shannonside Arts and Entertainment award for November. We were extremely delighted to hear we had won an award. It was a great achievement for our school and a memory that I know we will always treasure.
