We were delighted that a Third Year student from Glenamaddy Community School was a prize winner in the Teaching English Magazine’s National Poetry Competition.

Barrie Cunningham’s poem, What is a Bull? was highly commended and was one of twenty-one from over three thousand entries to receive a prize. His poem was also published in the winter 2011 edition of the Teaching English Magazine.

What is.....................a Bull?

( Modelled on “What Is.......the Sun?” by Wes Magee)

The Bull is a million hormones

bellowing to get out.

It is a tonne of muscle

waiting to be flexed

It is four hooves

Pawing soft ground

It is two evil eyes

staring back at me

It is a mad maniac

Longing to be free

Barrie Cunningham
