Art Trip to Kenny Art Gallery Galway.

On the 16th of September 2014, Art students from 5th, 6th, and Transition Year, accompanied by Ms. Cunniffe and Ms. Colleran, went to see the Frank McCann exhibition “Improvisations” at the Kenny Art Gallery, Galway.

Frank Mc Cann is an expressive painter in the mould of Jack Yeats. He is a self-taught artist from Belfast. He uses strong bold colours, applying the paint to the canvas with a knife. This technique is known as impasto.

Mc Cann and his family moved to Australia the times of the troubles in the north. He returned to Ireland and now lives in Gort. The themes of his works include dancing musical and mythical figures, emerging from vibrant and instinctively painted backgrounds.

After the exhibition we went to the Charlie Byrnes Book shop, Cornstore Mall, Middle Street Galway.
