France 2026
- Details
In just a couple of days in Paris, we managed to fit in sightseeing, a boat trip on the Seine, visits to the Palace and Gardens of Versailles and the Louvre, a Segway tour, an evening in Disneyland and of course some crêpes. The TGV high-speed train then brought us to Quimper, where we were based for the remainder of the trip. We attended various classes at the school in Gourin for the week, mixing with the students there and practising our French. Other activities included a walk from Gourin to Guiscriff, where we received a warm welcome from the town twinning committee and performed Irish songs, dance and music; we even found a shortcut through a field to the community centre. We also visited the coastal town of Concarneau, where we enjoyed the beach and explored the old walled town. We rounded off the trip with an overnight stay in Nantes, including a historical tour of the city and castle, as well as some cycling. From Nantes, we flew home on Friday, the 27th of March. Citylink then brought us back to Tuam-it was a dash, but all students and baggage were safely on board.
A heartfelt merci beaucoup is due to Ms Griffin, Ms McDermott, Mr Frain, Ms McNulty, Ms Lyons, Oisín and Bernard Mahé, all of whom helped to make the trip the best it could be; to Erasmus, who provided the funding; to the town twinning committee in Glenamaddy, who provided crêpes and pizza in the old railway station-the same beautiful railway line we walked along from our school in Gourin to Guiscriff; to the people of Guiscriff, who were so welcoming and who drove some of us back from the midway point of the 15 km walk; and to the staff and students of Collège Châteaubriand in Gourin, who welcomed us so warmly into their school.
