Glenamaddy CS 1 - 0 Coola PPS, Sligo

Well to done to the U15 Boys soccer team who had a hard fought win over Coola PPS, Sligo in the Connacht Final on Tuesday 10th. This was a gritty display with Michael Giblin getting to only goal with 15 minutes left on the clock. The team now go through to the All Ireland Semi Final and we await the details of this fixture. Congratulations to all the team and the management on this great success.

Huge congratulations to 5th year GCS student Aleesha Gibbons, who came 3rd in the Irish Dancing World Championship recently.

Well done to the players and management on their great win in the Connacht Final. It certainally put the icing on the cake of a very good year of football for this group of players.

Congratulations to GCS student Shauna Keaveney who has qualified to compete at an international boxing event and will be travelling to Sweden in May to represent her club. We are very proud of your achievements Shauna!

It is wonderful to see school tours resume again - none more so than our annual trip to Killary. Finally, after being postponed last year, 73 second year students had the opportunity to enjoy three days of Outdoor Activities in Connemara. Our Fifth year Ag. Science class attended an Agriaware Farm Walk at Mountbellew Agricultural College during the week. Great to meet a past Ag. Sience student, Diarmuid Lee, who was one the speakers on the day.

Veteran broadcaster Charlie Bird made a much welcomed and heart-warming visit to Glenamaddy Community School on Thursday 3rd March 2022. Charlie’s visit came as part of his preparations ahead of his Croagh Patrick climb in April. Along with his wife Claire and Tiger the dog, Charlie was treated to a lively and enthusiastic session of traditional Irish music in the school’s amphitheatre. Charlie then was invited to the convent house for a cup of tea and some local hospitality. The renowned broadcaster also walked Frass Greenway with Fr. Paddy and many local walkers. This proved to be no bother to Charlie as he keeps fit and active by walking up to 10km a day.

Charlie has lifted the spirits of the country with his stirring efforts to raise money for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta. We wish Charlie the very best as he continues his tour of Ireland in the coming weeks. We also thank him for the hope and inspiration he has brought to so many people since he set out on his journey to share his story following his terminal diagnosis with Motor Neurone Disease.
