On Wednesday, April 17th, the Fifth Years travelled to Athenry for a site visit at Coffey Construction. There were lots of presentations and stands. The students spoke to engineers, health and safety officers, IT experts and those involved in apprenticeships. It was a very enjoyable and informative day.

Best wishes to our Leaving Certificate students who are sitting their State LCVP Written Examination on Wednesday, 01/05/2024, and also to Leaving Cert students who will be sitting their Engineering and Construction Studies Bench Tests in the coming weeks.

Well done to our U15 Girls Soccer team on their brillant win in the All Ireland final on Wednesday 24th. They defeated Middleton, Cork in a match played in Limerick. The final score was 4-0 and thanks to Mr. Kennedy and Mr. Davis for all their work in coaching the team. Thanks also to all the supporters who travelled down to cheer on the girls. Following is a link to the FAI Schools article on the game.

Wishing Michaela Gillooly the best of luck in Scifest with her project “Own your cycle, Own your game”. The competition takes place on the 24th of April in TUS Athlone.

Congratulations to Savine Keaveney, Ella Grogan and Tracey Gillooly who made it to the Final 15 in the John Hooper National Maths Competition held by the CSO annually. They received an Order of Merit for their Project entitled “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!”. A wonderful achievement out of 258 projects entered nationwide.

They looked at the effects a sports injury has on teenager’s sports ability, social and mental health.

They will attend an Awards ceremony in Croke Park next October and their project can be found on the CSO website. https://www.cso.ie/en/interactivezone/competitionsandawards/johnhooper/

A group of TY students travelled to the Convention Centre, Dublin on Saturday 20th April to sing at the 180th anniversary celebrations of SVP in Ireland. Our school was invited to perform in front of a packed auditorium along with four other schools from other regions of Ireland. They sang the song Lean On Me, accompanied by Ms. O Flanagan on guitar.
Keynote speakers on the day included Mary Robinson (former President of Ireland) and Kevin Cunningham (lecturer in politics in TU, Dublin & founder of Ireland Thinks). The MC for the event was Marty Whelan.
Our students were treated to a delicious meal and goodie bag. Well done to TY our students on their fantastic performance, a very memorable day was had by all.

On Saturday, March 9, three students, Alfie Dowling (First Year), Beth O’Mahony (Second Year) and Hazel McGuire (Second Year) competed in the All-Ireland Cross-Country Final in Tymon Park in Tallaght in Dublin. All three students displayed exceptional endurance and had strong races, featuring well up the field.

Beth said “I think I ran well and the experience and atmosphere is always nice at All-Irelands”, while Hazel said, “I was happy with my performance and pace and it was a great experience that I enjoyed very much”. Alfie, new to Post-Primary School Cross-Country, is showing wonderful talent and this is the start of a bright future in running for him. Congratulations to all three students!

Glenamaddy Community School PLC students were on a two-week Erasmus+ work placement programme in Malaga. This invaluable experience, in conjunction with their host company European Era, was made possible through the funding of the Erasmus+ Programme by the European Union. Their itinerary was brimming with cultural immersion and professional development opportunities.

On the 8th of February 2024, 5th Year students, Transition Year students and teachers set off on their skiing trip to Poland. The trip started with a guided cultural tour of the city of Krakow to see Wawel Royal Castle, the Vistula River and Stare Miasto Square. The journey continued onto the ski town of Szczyrk where they spent the next 5 days learning to ski and immersing themselves in Polish culture. Everyone learned the skill of skiing and had great fun doing so. Thanks to everybody involved in making this journey a once in a lifetime occasion.
